PT Boats & The Connecticut Connection

The grandfathers of two local men collaborated in a project to build PT boats for the Navy in World War II.

John Cunningham of Deep River (the grandson of Irwin Chase Sr. )  and Jeffrey Ridgway  of Chester (the grandson of Hubert "Scotty" Paine) will share the podium at the Carriage House at the Deep River Historical Society's Stone House property on Tuesday, June 19 at 7 p.m.

As related in Frank Santoro's "Deep River Stories," recently published by Deep River Historical Society, "Both their grandfathers had a passion for building fast boats that ultimately led to the MTBs and PTs that played an important role in defeating the Axis in the Pacific, Mediterranean and North Atlantic theaters of WWII. When the two grandsons get together and tell stories, it is like watching history come alive."

The program is free and open to the public.
